We did a walk around with the FBI and the ATF (separately) for them to share their concerns and be able to assess the areas where they had work to complete. Two areas were identified that required shoring to meet the needs of the FBI and ATF. A small Rescue contingent was brought in to place the shoring.
One concern was a 50′ long laminated beam (48″ x 12″) that had fallen in the fire/collapse and was partially supported by a heavily fire damaged wall at one end. This beam was directly over an area where dogs hit the night before requiring additional search efforts near and under the beam. We were able to shore it to properly support and stabilize the beam for search activities under it.
The second area was a heavily damaged wall – single width masonry with a stick built wall behind it. Both were leaning heavily towards the exterior. ATF wanted the wall to be stabilized/shored in order to prevent collapse for evidence/analysis purposes, while minimizing debris removal/moving. We utilized a braced flying raker and a spot flying raker to stabilize the wall. In any typical response, this wall would have likely been pulled down, or just cordoned off (no go area).
Both shores were completed with Paratech equipment for speed of placing them and with the knowledge that we would be able to recover the equipment in a few days when the FBI and ATF were completed with their operations.

Dear Michigan Task Force 1 Friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I share my decision to retire from my role as Program Manager for MI-TF1 and MI-MABAS before the end of 2025.
Serving in this capacity since 2014 has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my career. I am deeply grateful for the strong partnerships, invaluable experiences, and lifelong friendships that have come from working alongside such dedicated professionals. It has been an honor to contribute to the mission of MI-TF1 and to witness the incredible progress we have achieved together.
Words cannot fully express the pride I feel in what we have accomplished and the impact we have made in service to our communities.
Thank you for the memories, the camaraderie, and the unwavering commitment you continue to show each day.
With sincere appreciation,
Dave McIntyre

On Saturday, October 4th, Jason Stevens (Planning Team Manager) had a final exercise planned for the newest CERT volunteers in the Lansing area. He invited the canine group from the Task Force to participate. With Honor Society students participating as the ‘victims’ and utilizing the now empty McLaren Hospital building in Lansing, the two groups worked to locate and to assist those ‘victims’ impacted by the mock disaster.
