The Upcoming Hurricane Season
Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November each year.
NOAA is predicting a below normal hurricane season for the 2026 season. They are predicting a wide range possibility of between 8 and 14 named storms (winds 39mph or higher) with with between 3 and 6 becoming hurricanes (winds of 74mph or higher) and 1 to 3 becoming major hurricanes (winds 111mph or higher).
El Niño is expected to intensify so even though the Atlantic temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal and trade winds slightly below normal, the El Niño effect will likely suppress the development of strong storms.
This site tracks many predictions and includes a live tropical storm/hurricane map: https://www.artemis.bm/2026-atlantic-hurricane-season/
