MI-TF-1’s Swiftwater Rescue Team – Texas Flood Response May – 2024

Welcome Home MI-TF1! The Type I Swiftwater/Floodwater Rescue Team is back from its longest EMAC deployment to date.

The swiftwater team from MIMABAS-MITF1 swiftwater rescue teams worked throughout Walker County, assisting the County EM with gaining access into some flooded neighborhoods that are still cut off because of the continued high water. The two (2) Squads worked alongside a TX-TF1 Swiftwater Team and a TX National Guard Unit with HPVs (High Profile Vehicles). The joint mission was to recon isolated neighborhoods, performing welfare checks and delivering water/MREs to those in need. The squads were involved in both water and land-based operations throughout the day.

Team members made countless contacts through the day with residents, offering assistance and checking on all those who decided to shelter in place rather than evacuate. Each contact was met with a smile and returned in spades with gratefulness that our team would travel so far to help Texans in a time of need.
