Temple Israel Response

Ben Plowman and Craig Dashner deployed to West Bloomfield as part of the Temple Israel response on March 12th.  The Structures Specialist MRP request to provide assistance to West Bloomfield, Oakland County TRT, Oakland County Sheriff, FBI and ATF (among others) in assessment of the stability and conditions of support systems of the building post vehicle impact and resulting fire.

Plowman and Dashner arrived on site, liaised with their POC, Captain Domico of Rochester Fire, and then with the FBI.  The FBI lead expressed concerns about damage to the building from the vehicle impact, entry and subsequent fire.  The affected areas were reviewed and found no significant structural damage that would impact continued operations.  However, the involved vehicle was lodged within an interior doorway adjacent to load bearing walls.  Plowman and Dashner remained on site to provide assistance during the vehicle removal process.

With initial removal techniques being unable to pull the vehicle from the doorway, Plowman and Dashner assisted the removal teams by considering impacts of different removal options and visually monitored load bearing walls while the removal was conducted.  Post removal, a review was conducted to verify the structural system remained undamaged for continuing operations.  The conditions were reported to the FBI lead and with no further requests outstanding, the members demobilized.

The Spring weather outlook is from NOAA is forecasted to bring a greater area of drought across the West and South Central regions with temperatures continuing to trend higher than normal.

Search Section Training at the MAAC Foundation

The Search Section came together for their annual training at the MAAC Center in Valparaiso, Indiana. Canines were able to practice rubble, wide area and building searches. Technical Search tried out the new FLIR device and worked with the cameras – including a confined space exercise. Also included was a canine bandaging refresher and a rope refresher. Overall a great team building experience!
